Environmental Evaluation Network
Around the world, groups of all kinds are taking action to improve the environment. International non-governmental institutions, governments at all levels, private industry, and research institutions implement programs to reduce greenhouse gases, increase access to safe water, clean up old chemical dumps, or take many other actions to protect the environment.
The problem is that many of these efforts are not evaluated, and when evaluations are done, they are not shared with those who could learn from them. An international group of environmental evaluators created a network to share their designs, methods, and findings to improve both environmental and evaluation practices. They needed a way to 1) Collect, store, and access a wide variety of evaluations and related documents; 2) Support an international conversation about environmental evaluation; 3) Engage policy makers, program designers, environmental professionals, and students about how to evaluate and use the findings from evaluation to influence policy and practice.
HSD Associates worked with the network to host a two-day Adaptive Action Lab. Thirty experts from around the world came together to define the requirements, explore design alternatives, and launch project work to create a knowledge management system to make this dream of integrated environmental intelligence a reality.
