Plan in Uncertainty
March 2, 2017 Traditionally we think of planning in organizations and communities as the work of those in charge. Strategic planning has been the task of the leader—with or without stakeholder engagement. In worst cases, engagement in strategic planning meant. “Do whatever it takes to achieve the goals.” In complex adaptive systems, decentralized planning engages individuals and groups in local decisions for faster response, shared accountabilities, and increased adaptability. Human systems dynamics offers a planning approach that engages energy and commitment at all scales of the system. In Strategic Adaptive Action, wherever you stand in the system, you have information and authority to see, understand, and influence patterns around you to fit with the direction and priorities of the whole system.
