June 4, 2020 Individuals create political patterns for themselves and others. At the same time, the political patterns force individual choices and behaviors. That’s part of the complexity of living and working in complex systems. Whether you work with an underperforming employee, transform corporate culture, or advocate for social justice, you must understand the nature of emergent patterns before you can shift them. In this session, you will learn about powerful, destructive patterns that emerge in complex systems. At the same time, you’ll discover ways to understand and influence them as your future unfolds.
May 7, 2020 In human systems, difference holds the energy for change. Adaptive Action helps you use that energy to navigate difference in human systems. Many approaches to equity and diversity generate fear. They sap energy from individuals and communities. In HSD, we offer an approach that transforms energy of difference into possibility. Set conditions for individuals to participate fully in the community of the future: Stand in inquiry; Grant and generate voice; Focus on differences that make a difference; Care for healthy boundaries. Join this session to explore how you can generate energy to create equity and social justice in times of radical uncertainty.
April 9, 2020 (Rescheduled from April 2) In an unknowable future, how do you calculate risk? How can you even begin to control it?  You don’t. Every action in a complex system opens the door to surprising results and unintended consequences. Some will be pleasant surprises. Others will not be. The only reasonable path is to take action and learn from surprise, both the good and the bad. The HSD Learning Triangle explains how you can transform risk into opportunity for yourself, your team, and your organization.  In this Live Virtual Workshop, join Glenda Eoyang to explore ways the Learning Triangle inform your Adaptive Actions to build Adaptive Capacity for yourself and in your teams.

November 7, 2019 Imagine—or maybe you have only to remember—the enormity of the shift that’s required when people uproot their lives and move into a totally new and different culture. You may have made such a shift yourself. Or you may have friends, colleagues, or relatives who are struggling to make a place in a new home that is far from what they’ve always known. For people who make the choice to move to a new place, the challenge of leaving what they knew and navigating the challenges before them can be overwhelming. For refugees, who make such a move out of desperation, fear, or coercion, those challenges are multiplied. Every action, every interaction carries potential for increasing tension. HSD can help explain the power of a “sense of place” and the challenge of recreating that in a new home. In this live virtual workshop, Glenda Eoyang talks about how assumptions about who you are in your world emerge from the dynamics of where you live, work, and play. She offers a path for understanding those assumptions, whether you are the immigrant, or you support others who have moved. Find ways to thrive in the uncertainty of living, working, and playing in new places.
