In the diversity of the 21st century, it is easy to allow differences that define us to become the dividing lines that separate us. Groups, teams, communities become insular and find it difficult to work together. And yet, in such a diverse world, it’s critical that we learn to share resources, perspectives, and talents in ways that enrich all our opportunities. Human systems dynamics (HSD) offers models and methods for supporting deep collaboration that leverages all contributions. In an HSD Collaboration Adaptive Action Lab, you will learn to:

  • Build common purpose and focus in diverse communities
  • Leverage tensions in the system to generate energy for change
  • Develop commonly shared goals and outcomes across institutional lines
  • Develop your own plan for collaborating to address a sticky issue you face

Make sense of patterns that shape your world. To change the world, you must first become sensitized to patterns that exist and conditions that shape those patterns. Only then can you take wise action to move forward. In your community, that means you must look across the differences to understand local patterns as well as patterns of the whole.

Create responsive actions that move you toward a shared future. In diverse communities, constituencies reach across institutional lines to coordinate action toward shared goals. Public-private partnerships, collapsed organizational silos, and community coordination show how collaboration will build a shared path for moving forward together.

Build this capacity across your system. It is not enough for a few “leaders” to know the destination and draw the map. Each individual must help to build the path, recognizing and sharing his/her contributions to the journey.

In HSD, we believe that inclusion is the job of each individual. Wherever they stand, individuals can collaborate. Bring your most challenging issues to work with HSD experts to build individual and organizational capacity for collaboration.
